Budapest – Christmas Fair at St. Stephen’s Basilica (Nov 17, 2023 – Jan 1, 2024)

Budapest’s newest Christmas market is in front of the Saint Stephens Basilica. This was opened for the first time in 2011, and it has an amazing atmosphere and great lights, and you can take nice pictures standing on the stairs of the basilica. You can buy mostly the same stuff as at the Christmas market at Vörösmarty Square, but here you can also go ice skating as you can find a small ice skating rink in the middle of the Christmas market.

This market is also especially known for the beautiful lights that you can see as you visit the square in the evenings, as the entire area is illuminated with lights, making it feel just like you are in the middle of a magic moment from your favorite Disney film or something like that! Absolutely worth visiting, especially because the market is only 600-700 meters from the market at Vörösmarty Square. True to the tradition of this year’s 12-year-old Advent Basilica, it promises a unique festive atmosphere with around 120 domestic craft exhibitors, real gastronomic adventures, and heart-warming programs with so many more surprises. The real, authentic Christmas spirit will move again into the heart of Budapest into St. Stephen Square!

Lisbon – Wonderland Lisboa (Dec 1, 2023 – Jan 2, 2024)

Lisbon’s Wonderland is inspired by London’s Winter Wonderland. It is definitely the biggest and the best Christmas market in Lisbon. It opens its gates on the 1st of December and stays till 1st of January. If you are in the mood for Christmas spirit, lights, flavors, and scents, this is your place! We can find the market in Eduardo VII Park. It is a strategic location and accessible from many directions all over Lisbon. The easiest is to arrive either by Uber or via the metro.

It is located near the metro station of Marquês de Pombal and Parque. If you decide to come by your own car, it’s good to know that there is a huge garage underground. The entrance is free. However, the prices inside are very expensive. Be prepared, they are rather adjusted to touristy prices than for locals. If you plan to have some hot chocolates, you may be surprised how much you’d pay in the end.
